Our proprietary TE-Sal solution does not require any treatment or replacement. It is a natural antiseptic, non-toxic, non-corrosive, inexpensive, abundant and Made in the U.S.A. We remotely monitor the concentration of the TE-Sal, which can absorb and release water through infinite cycles. The freezing point of TE-Sal is -58°F.
The BF-DOAS is currently available in a 15 or 20-ton cooling capacity and has the ability to run with mixed air inlet. This unit contains our regenerator, energy storage tank and conditioner core, while future units will include central regenerator and storage, with multiple conditioner cores (RTUs). In this configuration, we will be able to ground mount half of the unit size and weight and will only need to circulate liquid desiccant between the two sections.
When running in energy storage mode, the BF-DOAS turns off its regenerator (compressor) and uses approximately 1,800 Watts of power – just enough to run the fans and small circulating pumps for TE-Sal and water. The 150-gallon tank enables between 4-6 hours of air conditioning at target set points, such that this load flexibility comes with no sacrifice for the building and its occupants.
The BF-DOAS has digital twin architecture that enables remote control of its operation, as well as predictive maintenance. The unit requires less routine maintenance than its traditional counterparts, with fewer moving parts. The major routine maintenance is filter changes, which occur every 6 months for the TE-Sal and water lines.
The BF-DOAS qualifies for a 30% Federal investment tax credit (ITC-48E), on the full installed cost of the unit – which results in a lower first cost than a traditional DX-DOAS. Our energy efficiency and energy storage result in average savings of $10,000 per year in operating costs. Our expected useful life (EUL) of a BF-DOAS is similar to a traditional DX-DOAS, typically 15 to 20 years depending on climate and utilization.
By the end of February, we will have 14 Blue Frontier DOAS deployed, with units out in the field since 2023. These deployments are in Florida, Georgia, the Northeast and Southern California. We have local channel partner representation in half of the country, with new reps rolling out every month this year. Units currently have a 12 to 14-week lead time. Our energy savings and peak demand reduction are verified by multiple 3rd party M&V reports, including the CalNEXT Program.
